Art In Quarantine: Recreation Of The Virgin And Child With Saints Dominic

It is not an easy task to determine the theme of re-creation in medieval works of art. First of all, religious subjects dominated the creation in the Middle Ages. And there often are two or more figures. In isolation, we can't ask friends to help show a complicated context. So I tried to choose a simple composition. Secondly, the costumes in medieval paintings are unique because people dress in robes, which only can be created based on the materials available at home. After the repeated study, Duccio's The Virgin and Child with Saints Dominic and Aurea inspired me to create. The composition of this work is simple and vivid. And the characters are not as flat and stereotyped as the characters in medieval works. Interestingly, Mary looks at the child Christ with her loving eyes when the boy naughtily pulls her veil. Like any mother and child, they were intimate and full of trust and dependence. There is humanity in Mary and Christ. Today, the epidemic is raging. People have slowly estranged from each other because of being isolated, even between a mother and her child. I hope to arouse the closeness and warmth between people through my creation.
